A vast majority of people experience daily indigestion and manifestations thereof. Functional gastro-intestinal disorders are among the most common health conditions: chronic symptoms originating in digestive organs without identifiable structural or biochemical deviations.

Digestive system performs two key functions: first, transformation of food into nutrients essential to human body, and second, removal of waste material.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are conditions that provoke inflammation on walls of intestinal tract organs. Incidence rate trends to slowly increase along with improvement of living standards, and therefore inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) experience global spread.

Most common gastro-intestinal disorders include: chronic gastritis, ulcer exacerbation, gastroesophagial reflux (regurgitation) disease (GERD), intestinal diseases, infection diseases (viruses, bacteria, acute diarrhea, etc.), fatty liver diseases, functional gastro-intestinal tract conditions and irritable bowel syndrome.

Statistic data for the recent years show the trend to spread of inflammatory bowel diseases: chronic, multi-factor, autoimmune diseases with high risk of disability.

Chrohn’s Disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are the most common types of IBD. Multiple patients continuously have signs of the two diseases. The origin of IVD is not clear, yet studies show that excessively active immune system plays a key role here, along with improper food, medications, environmental factors and destroyed intestinal microflora.

CROHN’S DISEASE (CD) is a form of IBD. It is a chronic, frequently progressive disease that may affect any segment of the gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus. Inflammation most frequently occurs on the bottom segment of the small intestine, the upper segment of the large intestine or in vicinity of the anus. Normally, inflammation affects the bowel wall on its entire depth or spreads outside it to the adjacent organs. Spread of disease starts as a rule from erosion of bowel wall that develops into small ulcers progressing into large, deep ulcers that damage various segments of intestine causing tumefaction on intestinal wall and subsequent contraction of the bowel. The CD as a form of IBD can be distinguished by fragmentary nature of bowel damage with alternating healthy and damaged fragments of mucous membrane.

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a quite common disease. Lasting complaints on abdominal pain, irregular abdominal activity, constipation, diarrhea with or without bleeding, meteorism, nausea and/or vomiting, sickness, in particular after meal, etc. These are all gastro-intestinal disorders rather than inflammation. All people, whether or not they have irritable bowel syndrome, should note that healthy intestines and therefore overall health of an individual depends on the welfare of bacteria accommodated in our intestines.

70% adults have Helicobacter Pylori – it causes stomach and duodenum ulcer. Moreover, the caused damages are subject to no treatment as long as the bacteria is present in a human body. It can be detected during endoscopic examination, blood antigenic test or respiration test. If a stomach ulcer, bleeding or other severe changes are detected in gastro-intestinal tract and Helicobacter are also detected, elimination of the bacteria is crucial. Once the bacteria are eliminated, gastritis stops to progress and no ulcers recur unless caused by other some factors.

The bacteria are not always harmful, however. A human body gets well along with them. Elimination of Helicobacter may lead to more frequent diarrhea, irritated bowel, oesophagal tumor, also to bronchial asthma and skin allergies.

The treats of lingering lifestyle of the 21st century, such as lack of physical activities, junk food and alcohol, are the key risk factors that can adversely affect human liver and contribute to fatty liver. Fatty liver, also known as hepatic steatosis, develops unnoticed without manifest symptoms in early stage that would signal about deterioration of liver health.

Weakness, fatigue, welling and feeling of full stomach – these are frequent symptoms experienced in case of hepatic steatosis, yet they are often ignored in the stressful daily rhythm. Continued precipitation of fat can lead to inflammatory processes that subsequently contribute to development of more serious diseases: atrophic cirrhosis, hepatic insufficiency, and tumors. Inflammatory reaction develops in liver and causes increased formation of connective tissues known as fibrosis. This may lead to atrophic cirrhosis or to malignant tumor. It should also be noted that even individuals with normal bodily weight who are not inclined to abuse of alcohol unfortunately are not protected from diagnosis of hepatic steatosis.

Hepatic steatosis rather endangers those with excessive weight. The so-called centered adiposity is the most dangerous when fat deposits mostly form on mesentery, on abdominal omentum and around organs. It has direct adverse effect on liver. In addition, hepatic steatosis in such case frequently trends to be ill-disposed. Proper diet is crucial for people with diagnosed chronic gastro-intestinal diseases in terms of menu and also in terms of eating habits. 

It happens quite frequently that our own behavior, such as junk food, diets, starvation, use of medications, or enteroclysms, destroys our intestinal microflora. There are also pathogenic bacteria that cause diarrhea, inflammations and other conditions. Life would be impossible without bacteria accommodated in a human body, just like bacteria cannot survive outside human body. Intestinal microflora (microbiome) weighs over 2 kg, and it is composed of micro-organisms – bacteria of 1000 various species and subspecies, rather than of cells.

In future, bacteria would eventually serve not only to strengthen immunity but also to overall restoration of a human body and therefore to elongate human lives.

Cellular tissues are among the most healthy nutrients; instead of digestion either in stomach or in small intestine, they are split in the large intestine. The fatty acids released in this process (butyric acid, acetic acid and propionic acid) are crucial to strengthening of intestinal mucous membrane. Insufficient consumption of cellular tissues globally leads to increase in incidence of colon cancer. Mucous membrane of large intestine grows on intestinal content, rather than on blood. Fatty acids improve blood composition, reduce blood cholesterol level and reduce the incidence of sclerosis; they are very good for diabetes patients, and so on.
